Union participates in NICF College Week

This week, July 25-29, Union College will join the eight other member schools of the Nebraska Independent College Foundation in hosting College Week, a special visit event for prospective college students across eastern Nebraska.

During College Week, Union will host two visitation times each day, at 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and will include a campus tour and a financial aid presentation. Each member school will follow the same schedule so perspective students can visit more than one college per day.

Any student who applies during College Week will have application fees waived, and each school will award a $500 scholarship to a student who enrolls for classes as a result of the College Week visit.

1. Your acceptance to Union College;
2. The English and math classes for which you may register; and
3. Your merit scholarship award amount.

Act quickly if you still need to take (or retake) the ACT for acceptance to Union, for placement in higher level math and/or English class(es), or for better scholarship award amounts.

The education program at Union College offers diverse classroom experiences, making graduates "classroom ready" and sought after by schools all over North America. Student teaching and observation hours are fulfilled in a variety of setting including Adventist and public classrooms, and in single- and multi-grade settings like the two-room elementary lab school, located on Union's campus.

The Division of Fine Arts welcomes Cynthia Stokes as a full-time faculty member in the Music Department. Mrs. Stokes has directed the Union College Concert Winds since January 2008 and has taught instrumental lessons and Woodwind techniques over the past two years. She brings over 30 years of music teaching experience at levels ranging from first grade through college level.

The music group opporunities available on campus include Concert Winds, Chamber Orchestra, Woodwinds Quartet, and the Brass Union group. If you play an instrument, or would like to learn, contact Mrs. Stokes at cystokes [at] ucollege [dot] edu.

The Division of Business and Computer Science* mission statement is "to prepare professionals for Christian service in the business world by providing a quality, student-oriented education that emphasizes ethics and balances practice and theory." Service events include working with the Good Neighbor Community Center, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), and Junior Achievement (JA).

Student Appreciation Days (a.k.a. treat days) are events that occur on a particular Wednesday three times a semester. Every treat day comes with a new theme to recognize different groups.

Academic opportunity: Union Scholars

Union Scholars is an honors program where students take interactive interdisciplinary classes that focus on the theme of "Global Issues." The program replaces the 54 semester units of general education requirements with 46 semester units of Union Scholars courses from areas such as religion, humanities, and science plus a volunteer service component. In their senior year, Scholars pursue a specific area of interest through an independent study and research project called an Honors Thesis.
