Union College Heritage Collections Go Online

Photographs from the Lora McMahon King Heritage Room are now available for searching and viewing in the Union College Heritage Collections database. Material in this collection is related to the history of Union College, the College View community, and the Seventh-day Adventist denomination with a particular emphasis on the Mid-America Union region.

Library Increases Access to Online Journals

The Library is taking steps to increase access to online journals at Union College. Starting this spring semester, approximately sixty print journals will be moved to online access only. Following a new policy, the library will subscribe to online rather than print editions of journals when the online option is both less expensive and offers IP authentication. This means that when readers access journals from a campus computer, no usernames or passwords are necessary. Students and faculty will still need to log in to Union College’s proxy server using their UC ID and password when off campus. Journals which offer online access with passwords only will either remain as print subscriptions or be discontinued altogether if a print option is not available.

Library book sale features large religious collection

The Ella Johnson Crandall Memorial Library will host its annual book sale Feb. 13-17.

This year's sale will include a large selection of religion and philosophy books including Bibles and commentaries thanks to a large donation from recently closed schools. College View Academy donated books from Platte Valley Academy and Enterprise Academy, the two Seventh-day Adventist academies in Nebraska which closed recently. "I believe we have more nearly 2000 volumes for sale this year," said Sabrina Riley, Union College librarian.

There will also be a selection of young adult books, popular fiction, at least two complete encyclopedia sets and miscellaneous material. Hardcover books will sell for $1 and paperbacks for 50 cents each.

Andrews Study Bible Available to Union College Students, Faculty and Staff at 25% Discount

The Library is Back on Delicious

If you frequent the library's website, you may have noticed this fall that the library's account disappeared from the bookmarking social media service Delicious. The library's account was lost when Delicious changed its Web host several months ago. We are pleased to announce that the library's account is once again alive and well. Union College librarians are busy rebuilding the list of useful links.

New Anatomy and Physiology Study Tool on Trial

The library is currently offering access to Ovid's Primal Pictures on a trial basis. User's may access Primal Pictures by visiting any Ovid product to which Union College currently subscribes and clicking Primal Pictures at the top of the screen.

Finding Full-text Articles Just Became Easier

If you are a frequent user of the library's article databases, you may have noticed that the Periodicals A to Z link has been changed to Find Article @ Union College. This change was made because the library has added an open URL link resolver. Link resolvers are tools which allow linking from one individual article record in a database to the full-text document in another database.
