This website is intended for department chairs, faculty and others at Union College who engage in assessment of student learning at Union College.
For the purpose of assessment, evidence takes two forms. It can be derived from either direct or indirect methods. The resources in this website address both. It also provides resources for the major and the Lifetime Education and Active Discipleship (LEAD) program at Union College.
Direct Methods of Assessment
Direct methods provide evidence of learning from student performance. They require students to demonstrate that they can do what they have learned.
Indirect Methods of Assessment
Indirect methods provide evidence of learning based on perception or comparison data. Indirect methods are not adequate assessment on their own and should be used together with direct method for a complete understanding of student learning.
