Hear what former home school students like about attending Union College.

Name: Sara Arnott
Major: Nursing

How did you hear about Union College?
My older sister attended Union.

What was your experience like at Union when you came to visit?
I really liked it. The people (students and faculty alike) are friendly and are willing to help with whatever you need. They will also answer any questions you have, give you tours so you know where everything is, and redirect you when you get lost on campus.

Was it easy to adapt going from home-schooling to Union College?
I think that Union's environment makes it much easier to adapt. If you have questions or need help with anything, from homework to life in general, the faculty is more than willing to help and ease the transition as much as possible. I had trouble with a chemistry class my freshmen year (I'd never taken chemistry before) and my professor met with me whenever I needed, even coming in on Sunday afternoons. Yep, everyone here is pretty awesome!

How did you hear about Union College?
I heard about Union college through my father who took some continuing education classes here in the early '90s. Also, I heard about how great Union was from one of my friend's brothers who was attending Union at the time.

What was your experience like at Union when you came to visit?
When I first came to visit Union, it was somewhat shocking being on my potential college campus. But after being here for a few hours I knew this was the place God wanted me to be. I could see Him through all the people that worked here. Everyone was helpful and made me feel welcome. I felt like this was my "home."  There was a sense of belonging and I also knew this was a place to grow closer to God while receiving a Christian education. It is the best choice I have ever made. There is never a day I regret my decision to come to Union.

Was it easy to adapt from home-schooling to Union College?
I will say that the first couple of weeks are the hardest. You are adjusting to college, being away from home and family, and also being an outsider to those who came from academies and have friends from there. But you have to make an effort to talk to people, and once you do you will make friends for life.  Some of my best friends now are ones I met right after coming to Union. Everything is an adjustment. Have a positive attitude and remember God is on your side. With those two combinations you'll have nothing to worry about.
