The list below serves as your checklist for the program requirements, application forms and everything else that must be done to start your nursing education at Union College.

Admission
Application to the Nursing Program is a three step process.
1. Admission to Union College
The first step for admission into the Nursing Program is to submit the Union College Application on the Admissions webpage and be accepted to attend Union College.
If you are transferring to Union College, applications to Union College and the Nursing Program can be submitted simultaneously, but your Nursing Program Application is not complete until you have been accepted at the college level.
Once you are accepted to Union College, you will receive an acceptance letter from the Union College Admissions Office with registration instructions.

The third step for admission to the Nursing Program is to complete the Nursing Application Checklist, 1-10 below.
Nursing Program Applications are reviewed by the Nursing Program Admission and Academic Evaluation Committee (AAEC). Only applicants who meet all qualifications will be accepted.
Your nursing application will not be submitted for consideration by the AAEC until the first nine of the following items are completed and ALL documents are received by the Admission and Progression Coordinator.
Upon acceptance by the AAEC, a confirmation fee of $150 must be remitted along with notification that you plan to attend.
You will receive an official notification letter from the AAEC when selection of applicants is complete.
Nursing Application Checklist
All applicants to the Union College Nursing Program must complete the following nine items: (The tenth will be done after admission)

Grade Point Average
A 2.75 GPA or above on a four point scale is required for admission.
Prerequisites
Beginning with the Spring 2013 semester, the following courses must be completed with a C or above before acceptance to the Nursing Program:
All Applicants
Anatomy and Physiology (includes labs) (8 semester hrs)
Introduction to General, Organic and Biochemistry for Nursing(includes lab) (4 semester hrs)
Microbiology (includes lab) (4 semester hours)
College Writing I and II (6 semester hours)
Developmental Psychology (3 semester hours)
Elementary Statistics (3 semester hours)
A grade of C (2.00) or above is required in all prerequisites.
ALL prerequisites must be successfully completed before the semester you are applying for begins.

To complete the Nursing Program in five semesters, candidates should complete approximately 45 semester hours of the General Studies and Nursing Prerequisite courses before beginning the Nursing Program.
3. Nursing Program Application
Once you have met the prerequisites, fill out the online nursing program application .
You cannot save the online application to complete later, so please review all the questions and make sure you have all the information you will need on hand before beginning.

4. Nursing Program References
Please print and sign three nursing program reference forms . Send them to
an instructor,
an employer
and to someone who knows you well.

5. Transcripts and Test Scores
ACT/SAT Scores and High School Transcript
Request to have ACT or SAT scores, your high school and college transcripts sent to:

6. Nursing Program Physical Examination and Immunizations
Immunizations and physical exams are an important part of the application process. Please print the Physical Examination and Immunizations Report and have a licensed professional medical administer the physical exam and complete the report.
If you are a first time applicant to the college, use the nursing forms for physical and immunizations. They will also be accepted as meeting the college requirements.
7. Nursing Program—Entrance Exams
TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills)
All Applicants: Schedule an appointment to take the TEAS exam. Call the Nursing Program Office Manager at 402.486.2524.
This four-part assessment consists of subtests in Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English with a total testing time of 3 hours and 29 minutes.
The cost for the TEAS exam is $35.00. You will pay for this exam by credit or debit card at the time you take the exam.
You may purchase a study guide from http://www.atitesting.com/ati_store/TEAS-Products.aspx , or at a college bookstore or library.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
Students whose native language is not English and who have not provided scores indicating language proficiency must be tested to determine admission readiness. An internet score of 83 or a score of 560 on the Union College administered TOEFL (not including essay portion) is required before applying to the Nursing Program. Arrangements to sit for this exam can be made through the Union College Humanities Office: 402.486.2523.
LPN Placement ATI Exams
Each licensed practical nurse (LPN) candidate is evaluated individually for placement in the nursing program utilizing Assessment Technology Institute (ATI) exams. The placement exams are designed to determine the courses you will take during the second semester of the nursing program and the length of your individual program.
Regardless of prior education or experience, Physical Assessments and Pathophysiology will be the first two nursing courses that LPN students will take during their first semester on campus.

RN Second-Step Applicants
RN Applicants are not required to take the TEAS exam. You should contact the Admission and Progression Coordinator for further instructions on placement. You may be required to take specific ATI exams.
8. Nursing Program - Consent to conduct background check
Your Union College education will involve both observation and hands-on experience in clinical settings. Because of this, you are required to undergo background checks.

9. CPR certification
All nursing students must complete the American Heart Association's certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for Healthcare Providers and provide a copy of their CPR card to the Nursing Program.
If you are not already CPR certified, classes are offered at Union and may be scheduled through the Division of Nursing Office (402.486.2524).
10. Register for Classes
Once you receive your acceptance letter from the Union College Admissions office and the additional acceptance letter from the Nursing Program Admission and Academic Evaluation Committee (AAEC), you may register for classes.
An academic advisor will be assigned to you to help navigate scheduling conflicts or to give other guidance. Your advisor will need to APPROVE your classes once you have submitted them through your cart in Self-Service.
New students cannot register for classes until they have met with an Nursing Program academic advisor which will be assigned to you.
Registration is primarily online, using Self-Service . Only students already accepted to Union and registered on Self-Service will be able to sign up for classes. You will receive your login information after being accepted to the college. If you did not receive a password or have trouble logging in, contact Information Systems at 402.486.2511.
