UNION COLLEGE HOSTS HERMITAGE LECTURER

 

LINCOLN, Neb.— Alexei Sergeev, administrator at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, will lecture on “Approaching Russian History through Art” at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 28. The presentation will be held in the auditorium of the College View Seventh-day Adventist Church at 4015 S. 49th St. (corner of S 48th and Prescott) with a reception following hosted by Union College.

Begun by Catherine the Great in 1764, the State Hermitage Museum is housed in the Winter Palace and five other buildings and has become one of the largest collections of art in the world.

An accomplished art scholar and linguist, Sergeev began working at the museum in 1971 while still a student at the University of Leningrad. Since then, he became an administrator in the education department and has served as administrator in several other departments. He has published a number of works on French art, existentialism and the French Revolution.
