CHRIS
RICE KICKS OFF UNION COLLEGE CONCERT SERIES
On
Sunday, Sept. 28, Union College will host a concert by Christian recording
artist Chris Rice. The concert will take place at College View Church located
on the corners of 48th and Prescott at 7:30 p.m. The doors will open
at 6:30 p.m.
Rice,
a native of Maryland and the son of Christian bookstore owners, began his path
to a full-time musical career by leading college worship services and retreats.
His style has developed to include a wide range of music, from thoughtful folk
to pop and instrumental. Rice writes his lyrics from a motivational standpoint,
attempting to reach beyond the typical confines of Christianity. He recently released his sixth album,
“Run the Earth… Watch the Sky” (Rocketown Records, 2003).
Rice’s
life is a testimony to his faith. “I’ve finished every
concert,” Rice says, “with a closing thought from my last record
(“Smell the Color 9,” Rocketown Records, 2000): ‘Every day is
a gift you’ve been given, make the most of the time every minute
you’re living.’ This reinforces, even in my own heart, my
determination to live with that perspective.”
Tickets
may be purchased in advance at Family Christian bookstores for $15 or by
calling 486-2508 to charge by phone. Tickets will also be available at the door
for $17. Children 12 years and under are free.
