Silver Well Workplace Award presented to Union College
LINCOLN—Union College received
a Silver Well Workplace Award April 2005 in recognition of positive
activity in Union’s Employee Wellness program. Given by WorkWell, the
local council for Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA), the award is part
of a national program promoting healthy workplaces. Union received the
bronze award in 2003.
According the Lisa Henning, executive
director of WorkWell, levels of achievement include bronze, silver, gold
and platinum. Silver indicates that an organization has a wellness
structure in place that is supported by administrators, and employees are
experiencing behavior changes and health improvements.
To receive the award, Union’s
Wellness Committee submitted a detailed application documenting the
college’s wellness program activities. “Union received the award as a
recognition of providing meaningful wellness activities for Union College
employees,” said Becky Stafford, Union professor and Wellness Committee
chair. “The benefit to the college is that we are recognized as putting
value on wellness. It also shows that management cares about the
employees.”
The award was given April 12 at the
Public Health Awards Banquet through Lincoln Lancaster County Health
Department and WorkWell at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus
Union. David Smith, Union College president, and Gary Bollinger, vice
president for financial administration, accepted the award on behalf of
Union College. Union is one of 18 companies in Lincoln currently holding
silver award distinction.
