“Respect the Lord and you’ll live a long life; obey Him, and you’ll save yourself a lot of heartache.”        Proverbs 19:23 (Randy Reed Paraphrased Version)

This is getting pretty basic for my journey through life. Two requests, tied together into one idea, for a secure and positive live- respect and obey God. That’s about as clear and simple as it can get! I can get excited about a long life without heartaches!

“Above all else, guard your heart.”          Proverbs 4:23

Another “bottom line” theology to live by. And true to my axiom, “if it’s important to God, it’s clear in His word,” Solomon goes on to define what he means by “guarding my heart.”

1.            “Put away perversity from your mouth, keep corrupt talk far from your lips”-

“Here is the conclusion of the whole matter: Respect God and keep His commandments.”           Ecclesiastes 12:13

Bottom line-

1.            Fear- or respect- or live in awe, of God

2.            Do what He says is best

“For this is the WHOLE duty of man.”

Any questions?

Have a great day with bottom line theology,

“You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is steadfastly focused on You because he trusts You.”  Isaiah 25:3

Perfect peace is a pretty good offer! And God’s promise today through the prophet Isaiah is that He will KEEP me in perfect peace IF my mind is steadfastly focused on Him because that will demonstrate that I trust Him. So my “at this point conclusion is” I do NOT seek peace, I seek steadfastness with Jesus. He’ll take care of the peace part!

Have a great day focusing steadfastly,

Pastor Rich

Kind words of correction are a greater blessing than empty words of flattery. ~Proverbs 28:23 (Randy Reed Paraphrased Version)

Randy came through again for me! He has an amazing way with Spirit-led words. As I journey on the road of intentionally and consciously following Jesus (aka Discipleship), I wrote yesterday about the need to allow and even bless the opportunities for spiritual growth that come in the tough times of life. Sometimes those “tough times” might just come from my friends or family.

“Count it all joy, my friends, when you meet various trials…”       James 1:2

OK, this is NOT an easy one for me. I was thinking about James 1 on my walk yesterday morning and asking God to give me texts that can continue guiding me in this GMU journey in the value of discipleship. And after that prayer the first text that came to mind was this one, and I’d already written GMU for yesterday so I prayed that it would stay with me until this morning so I can write about it! And it did!!

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,  casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7

Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. Colossians 2:6-7
