Local art gallery director displays paintings in McClelland Art Gallery
Julia Noyes is reaching new corners of Lincoln, and new audiences, with a McClelland Art Gallery exhibit running through Sept. 19. Noyes, whose 10 pieces are on display at Union College, directs and owns her own gallery located on South 9th Street.
“Having the Noyes Art Gallery has been a special blessing because I get to work with so many other artists,” Noyes said, explaining that each month she coordinates exhibits with more than 60 other local artists.
Her own work is non-objective, an abstract expressionist style. “I use mixed media and acrylic paint on paper, board or canvas and often collage materials using gold leaf, foils and various papers,” Noyes said.
The experienced art director’s love for creativity doesn’t end in the gallery room. A veteran college teacher, Noyes is now an adjunct professor for Union College teaching Design I.
“I love teaching, and hope to make a difference in people’s lives,” Noyes said.
The McClelland Art Gallery is in the Ortner Center on the Union College campus, 3800 S. 48th Street. Enter the campus from Prescott Avenue. The art gallery is free to the public and open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, contact the Ortner Center at 402.486.2545.
