Union student wins Nebraska ADDY
For Justin Gibson, an invitation to one banquet led to an award at another.
Gibson’s poster for the spring 2009 Associated Student Body banquet won a student silver ADDY at this year’s Nebraska ADDY Awards. The ADDY awards are presented annually by the American Advertising Federation for creativity in advertising. The competition is a three-tiered process, starting at the state level then winning designs go on to compete at regional and national competitions.
“Winning an ADDY my senior year is a big boost to my confidence and my prospects as I start my job search,” Gibson said.
The senior graphic design major created the poster while serving as the public relations officer for Union’s Associated Student Body. According to Gibson, changes made to Union’s graphic design major two years ago as well as the many opportunities to work with on-campus departments and organizations as clients have helped him excel.
“I think most departments and organizations on campus understand the value of good design,” said Gibson. “When I show my portfolio to professionals and they see things like the President’s Report and the Peanut Gallery, they are always impressed, and I’m glad that Union hires its students to work on real-world projects.”
