Nebraska artist Sharon Ohmberger will display her clay pottery in the McClelland Art Gallery through Oct. 2.
For local artist Sharon Ohmberger, inspiration for her ceramic artwork comes from the textures and colors of the world around her. Now through October 2, the native Nebraskan will display a variety of earthenware clay pottery and dishes in the McClelland Art Gallery at Union College.
Ohmberger owns a studio in Firth where she creates using slabs and coils, not a potter’s wheel. “My pieces reflect my continuing interest in the spirit of rural Nebraska, especially the colors, textures, and the feeling of its wild and domesticated landscapes and my internal connections with it,” she says on her website. “I am fascinated by rich, layered colors and textures. I encourage people to touch my pots, especially the functional pieces, to experience the textures and presence of the clay, in addition to the enjoyment received from viewing it.”
Located in the Ortner Center on the Union College campus at 3800 S. 48th Street, the McClelland Art Gallery is free to the public and open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information, contact the Ortner Center at 402.486.2545.
