Union College will celebrate Christmas with three annual concerts this weekend.
The Christmas Choral Concert, on Friday, Dec. 9, will feature the Unionaires and the Vocal Octet. The groups will perform seasonal music by John Rutter, several Robert Shaw and Alice Parker arrangements, and an eclectic mix of the director's personal Christmas favorites that have stood the test of time.
“This music is special to me as it is music that I grew up with,” said Dan Lynn, professor of music. “Coming from a music educator's household, this is a homage to my roots and to major influences in my life.”
The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of the College View Seventh-day Adventist Church and also webcast live on UCLive.
On Saturday evening, Dec. 10, the Union College Concert Winds band, directed by Cynthia Stokes, will perform selected Christmas arrangements in the Union College Gymnasium. The sacred portion of the concert will begin at 4:00 p.m. and the secular concert will follow a worship message at 4:30.
In the Atrium on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m., traditional music featuring Beethoven will be played by the new student string quartet.
Admission for performances is free, but an offering will be taken Friday night.
