Student Teacher Represents Union at Pearl Harbor Memorial

Student teaching isn’t always confined to the classroom. For Steven Hutchison, fall 2011 music education and Spanish graduate, his practicum took him over 3000 miles away.

Every education major at Union College spends a semester as a full-time student teacher, allowing students to apply their knowledge to real classroom situations and transition into the role of a teacher.

Library book sale features large religious collection

The Ella Johnson Crandall Memorial Library will host its annual book sale Feb. 13-17.

This year's sale will include a large selection of religion and philosophy books including Bibles and commentaries thanks to a large donation from recently closed schools. College View Academy donated books from Platte Valley Academy and Enterprise Academy, the two Seventh-day Adventist academies in Nebraska which closed recently. "I believe we have more nearly 2000 volumes for sale this year," said Sabrina Riley, Union College librarian.

ESL becomes EAP

The Union College Division of Humanities recently announced that the English as a Second Language program (ESL) has transitioned to a new name: English for Academic Purposes (EAP).

“The name ESL has been around for so long it, was time for an update to something more accurate,” said Peggy Whalen, director of EAP.  “We finally settled on EAP because it is more descriptive of the goal of the program.”
