Both at Union and colleges and universities nationwide, students who live on campus are tend to get better grades, feel more connected to campus life, and take fewer years to finish their degree. Because of the connection between residence halls and success in college, Union requires younger students not living with their parents to live on campus.

The number of available units varies from semester to semester. Usually by April or May, units may be arranged for the coming summer and fall. Students are advised to contact the housing manager as soon as possible.
Notes
- Pets are not allowed.
- Numerous apartments are available in the immediate vicinity of the campus, should Union's housing not be available.
- In addition to the International Student deposit, students wanting off-campus housing are advised to bring extra money to pay for a rental deposit, first month's rent, utilities and other expenses. Please plan to bring at least an extra $1,500 to help cover these expenses.
Off-campus housing policy
Union College Off-Campus Housing Policy
The Union College Student Handbook states the following regulations concerning housing:
Union College is primarily a residential college requiring residence hall housing of its students. Exceptions are:
- Students who are 22 years of age at the beginning of a semester
- Students taking 5 semester credit hours or less (other than first year freshman)
- Students living with parents whose primary residence, as verified by their income tax statement, is Lincoln
- Students living with close relatives who are 25 or older, having established homes
- Students who are married, divorced, separated or widowed
- Students who are 21, have senior standing, a cumulative GPA of 3.0, three consecutive semesters of meeting worship expectations, and excellent citizenship; and have been approved by Deans’ Council
- Students living with an approved, non-related family
The following specific conditions pertain to off-campus housing for students requesting to live with a family:
- Students may live for no charge with an approved family in the community. Students can not live in a separate apartment (separate entrances and cooking facilities) in the same building as the family with whom he/she lives. They must live in the same, single family dwelling as the family assuming responsibility for their conduct.
- No money, equivalent goods, or household supplies may be exchanged for room and board. Room and board must be supplied free of charge.
- The family with whom the student is residing must assume full responsibility for the conduct of the student.
Arrangements for moving off campus must be approved by Deans’ Council before signing any rental/lease agreement.
Two weeks should be allowed for processing this application: Off Campus Housing Form-2013.pdf
