Lincoln has more parks per capita than any other United States city and is within easy driving distance to many lakes. Holmes Lake and Pioneers Park are favorites of Union students; other options include Pawnee Lake, Branched Oak Lake and Blue Stem Lake.
Lincoln offers many cultural opportunities. The Lied Center is acclaimed as one of the top United States performing arts centers, hosting symphonies, ballets, Broadway shows and more. There are several museums and art galleries, including the Sheldon Art Gallery, which houses a noteworthy collection of 20th century American Art of more than 12,000 pieces. The Lentz Asian Cultural Center has 500 pieces in its permanent collection, and the changing exhibition brings different displays of art and photography. Both Lincoln and Omaha are stops for national concert tours, and three community playhouses round out the list of activities.
The Nebraska State Capitol (pictured above) is second tallest of all Unites States capitol buildings (only the Louisana State Capitol rises higher). The 14th floor observation deck offers a great place to explore on Saturday afternoon.
Union is located in the center of the nation with easy access to Lincoln, Omaha and Kansas City airports. Lincoln is only a one-hour flight from Denver or Chicago.
