I began my teaching career as a graduate teaching assistant, teaching Freshman English at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. I also taught art in the Oxford public school system. From Ohio, I went to my home state to teach English and Art at Battle Creek Academy in Battle Creek, Michigan for seven years prior to coming to Union College where I have been Professor of Art for the past 40 years. As Professor of Art I have also taught art various watercolor workshops in and outside the United States. I have also taught art in Trinidad, Bermuda, Costa Rica, Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras on special assignments. I began teaching at Union College in 1974.

Personal Information:

I am an avid gardener, painter in oil and watercolor and out of doors lover. I exhibit and sell my art from coast to coast as well as outside of the country. I am active in my church and community by teaching Sabbath School classes and judging art exhibits as well as teaching watercolor workshops across the country.


Our son, Jim, graduated from Union College with his B.A. in business. His passion, however, is music. He plays several instruments and composes music. His major instruments include violin, piano, keyboard and guitar. He lives in Lincol,Nebraska  Our daughter, Laurel, teaches EAP at The Universuity of Nerbraska I n Lincoln.. She graduated from Union College with a B.A. in English, Religion and Education. Shae also earned master's degrees in Youth Ministry at Andrews Universtiy in Michigan and in EAP at the Universtiy of Nebraska.  She spent a year teaching English at Nile Union Academy in Egypt. She is passionate about writing, music, missions and helping others, especially international students. She composes music also and her major instruments are violin, piano and guitar.



My wife, Huda, and I have been married for 52 years and have two children.  Huda  is an avid reader, cook and superlative mom. She enjoys people, helping them in many ways and enjoys her work as well as family, students and friends.
