It's December 5; Good Morning Union

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”           Romans 12:11

And how, pray tell, do I do that? I think I might have said this before, maybe a hundred times or more! “If it’s important to God, it’s clear in His word!” This must be important to God because I found at least 15 specific things listed around this verse that help me understand how to keep my zeal and spiritual fervor for the Lord:

1.            “Be devoted to one another with brotherly love”

2.            “Honor one another above yourselves”

3.            “Be joyful in hope”

4.            “Be patient in affliction”

5.            “Be steadfast in prayer”

6.            “Share with God’s people who are in need.”

7.            “Practice hospitality”

8.            “Bless those who persecute you, bless and do not curse.”

9.            “Live in harmony with one another”

10.          “Do not be proud”

11.          “Do not be conceited”

12.          “Do not repay anyone evil for evil.”

13.          “Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.”

14.          “Live at peace with everyone.”

15.          “Do not take revenge.”

THAT is a pretty proactive intense life, full of “zeal” and “spiritual fervor” I’d say! Instead of just wandering half-heartedly through my Christian life, I wonder what would happen if, say, I focused on one of these spiritual directives each day, and I did it with “zeal and spiritual fervor?” No, I don’t wonder, I think I know!

Christianity can get boring because I seem to want to make it predictable so I can control it (in my life or in the lives of others!) Responding to life in any of these 15 ways, and doing it with gusto, would produce, I believe, a life that is anything but predictable! Should we find out?! J

Have a great day being full of zeal and spiritual fervor,

Pastor Rich

Quote for the day: "Jesus let people belong long before they believed or behaved."
