“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 29:11
This verse has become a VERY popular verse, quoted almost every time we have an event where we ask for “your favorite verse.” The plans God has for me are two fold, according to Jeremiah:
- “to prosper me and not harm me
- to give me hope and a future.”
“THEN,” That’s the next verse after the famous verse 11. “Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me.” Apparently there is some relationship between understanding God’s very positive “plans” for my life and my ability to “call on Him,” and “pray to Him.” I guess it’s like any good relationship; when I realize that a new-found friend/Friend means only good for me, THEN I will be more likely to share my thoughts and my heart with him/Him. The good part in this Friend-encounter, again according to Jeremiah is, “I will listen to you.” Nothing like having a friend that when I talk he/she actually listens! Well, THAT is God’s promise!
And one more part of this “after verse;” “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek me with all your heart. I WILL be found by you.” I start with a confidence that my new Friend has great plans for me; that motivates me to talk to Him because He WILL listen; and then I end with the assurance that I WILL be able to find such a Friend--- but I have to search--- and I have to do that searching with “all my heart.” Getting something valuable may not always come easily, but it WILL be worth it! It takes more than an occasional glancing in His direction- it takes the same kind of commitment that any relationship takes, except in this case the reward is so much greater. I WILL find Him, and He WILL listen to me, and He DOES have great plans for me—IF I search for Him “with all my heart.”
Have a great day searching, and finding,
“Union Power Prayers” is a new addition to GMU at the request of your UFC director and his team of class pastors. You will soon be learning more about how to present requests that we as a school family can unite over in prayer. The first request that was prioritized by the UFC team was for the Philippines and the destruction and loss of life from the recent typhoon/tsunami. Teachers, please add this to classroom prayers; staff, please add this to your devotional prayers; students, please make this a part of your prayer life as well. What if every prayer on campus this week include the Philippines? Union Power Prayers! I love the idea, and this week I’m sure the people of the Philippines do as well.

Quote for the day: Regard your good name as the richest jewel you can possibly be possessed of - for credit is like fire; when once you have kindled it you may easily preserve it, but if you once extinguish it, you will find it an arduous task to rekindle it again. The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to appear. Socrates
