“I ask that we love one another.”             2 John 5

A short little book with a big message- “Love one another.” And true to His word and my theology of Scripture, if it’s important to God, it’s clear in His word”- the next words say, “And THIS is love…”

“When He appears, we shall be like Him…”  1 John 3:3

I continue to become more and more merciful as I get more and more “chronologically experienced” in life. Kinder, gentler, mercifuler (that’s my new word for the day!), lovinger (ok, there’s another one. I’m on a role!), graciouser, forgivinger. Word creativity is a by-product of “chronological experience!”

“You ask and you do not receive, because you ask with the wrong motives.”       James 4:3

Possibly one of the greatest reasons for what appears in many Christians’ lives as the cause for “unanswered prayers.” It’s a pretty challenging message but one that has, and continues to change my prayer life—for the better!

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus….”                Hebrews 12:2

Hebrews is about Jesus, the High Priest, in the Heavenly sanctuary and what an advantage that offers me, by faith, to see my spiritual potential in Him. Chapter 12 has some criteria to realizing this potential:

1.            “throw off everything that hinders and entangles me in sin”

“Charge it to me.”            Philemon 18

One of the smallest of the letters in the Bible, it’s a story about a runaway slave named Onesimus and his owner, Mr. Philemon. It seems like a challenging book because it appears to be endorsing slavery in the New Testament and I don’t like that very much. Ellen White was very helpful for me in understanding this letter. Two quotes from the book Acts of the Apostles—

“The knowledge of truth leads to godliness.”      Titus 1: 2

A little algebra review for today:

If A + B = C

And A + B = D

Then C = D, right?

So let’s see if it works in theology as well! I started reading my book-that-corresponds-to-the-day, that book being the short letter from Paul to Titus, and I found some spiritual algebra!

“All Scripture is God-breathed….”             Timothy 3:16

A very familiar verse of Scripture that is often used to confirm the authority and authenticity of God’s Word. The older and more familiar way it was said (when I was a kid and we ONLY used the King James!) “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God.” If I accept that the Bible IS from God, and I do, then what is it to be used for? “It’s useful for:

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.”       Colossians 3:15

These letters by Paul to the various churches surrounding the Aegean Sea are just so full of practical wisdom for living a life in harmony with Jesus. Today was no exception. When he wrote to the believers in Colosse (now a mound of dirt just south of the ruins of Laodicea) he was full of encouragement and guidance for living with Jesus:

1.            “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts”

“You are the aroma of Christ.”   2 Corinthians 2:15

I have a little sticky note in my Bible that caught my attention this morning. It says:

“You are:

1.            ‘the aroma of Christ’ (2:15), so how do you smell to those around you?

2.            ‘a letter from Christ’ (3:3), so what are you saying to those who read you?

“Finally, brethren (and sistern!)…”           Philippians 4:8

I LOVE Philippians 4!

1.            “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!!”

2.            “Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”
