Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. Colossians 2:6-7
Good Morning Union
"I urge you therefore, brethren, in view of God’s mercy, that you present your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. This is your spiritual act of worship. Don’t be conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you can prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Romans 12:1-2
"By this is My Father glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.” John 15:8
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35
On my Biblical journey in discipleship, I want to look for what specifically God’s word says about being a “follower of Jesus.” Last night as I was falling asleep and thinking about GMU this text came to mind and it came back again this morning. What an obvious yet logical place to begin. It doesn’t get much more basic than this.
“All Scripture is God-breathed.” 2 Timothy 3:16
If I’m going to focus on discipleship- being a disciple, or follower, of Jesus then I better start with the most basic reference on how to accomplish that task. This is the first verse that came to mind as I started contemplating the process.
Welcome back, or welcome for the first time if you are just joining the UC family! Break was great, but seeing you all again will be even greater! A clean slate, for those who need it, and a continuation of good things for those who learned more last semester about time management and the discipline of setting priorities. I do pray that this semester will grow you even more- closer to God and to your goal of preparing to invest your gifts in the calling that He has/will give you. If you are new to Union then just a little explanation of this email.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7,8
Last day of exams- first day of Christmas break!! J
“Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart, and don’t just lean on your own wisdom and understanding. In everything you do acknowledge Him as your Source of everything, and He will bless you and lead you down the best paths.” Proverbs 3:5,6 PRV
Second day of exams—same prayers for you all!
“If any of you lack wisdom, then ask God who gives to all generously; but ask in faith, with no doubting.” James 1
First day of exams. My prayers are with you that God will give you good recall of all that you have studied (and a bit of grace thrown if for all that you SHOULD HAVE studied! J)
Have a great day trusting God for strength,
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, thought you be small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for Me One who is to be ruler over Israel.” Micah 5:2
The names of our Messiah were Jesus and Immanuel. The place He was to be born was predicted hundreds of years before, also with two names—Bethlehem and Ephrathah! I’ve heard the first one many times (and even visited there which was quite the spiritual treat!), but the second one, not so much.
