Good Morning Union

It's February 26; Good Morning Union

“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save.”    Zephaniah 3:17

That a good reminder every day—I need to remember that God IS always with me and He IS mighty to save! I didn’t say I always feel it directly, but I believe it  by faith, and that’s what I hang onto, in the good time and when things get tough. The rest of the verse expands this idea with three illustrative phrases:

“To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.”            Psalm 25:1

As I was reading the psalms this morning I realized that this could be a helpful model for prayer. I was reminded of things to include in my prayer that can help keep me focused:

“Oh how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.”   Psalm 119: 97

“How can a young man keep his ways pure?”     Psalm 119:9

Good question, and not just for “young” men!! The devil continually bombards with evil and the direction of much of the world is to endorse his bombardments. How do I keep from being sucked in to his downward spiral? If it’s important to God, it’s clear in His word. “By meditating on Your word.” Or as another version puts it, “by living according to Your word.”

A wise man listens more than he speaks, but a fool causes himself all kinds of trouble by doing the exact opposite. ~Proverbs 10:14 (Randy Reed Paraphrased Version)

Randy is a friend of mine here in Lincoln; casually in that we hardly ever see each other,  but I feel spiritually bonded to him because of the way he continually blesses my life with his daily dose of his “Randy Reed Paraphrase” of the Bible. Yesterday was exceptional and I thought I would share it with you for multiple reasons:

“IF My people, who are called by My name will…”            2 Chronicles 7:14

I know, I’ve probably written about this text before (I didn’t go back and check but I think I have!) but I REALLY like it! “If My people, who are called by My name will:

Humble themselves
Seek My face, and
Turn from their wicked ways

THEN I will:

Hear from heaven
Forgive their sins, and
Heal their land.”

“Stress these things… SO THAT”                Titus 3:8

I love the “SO THAT” texts in the Bible!! They contain such objective and clear answers and directions for life. “Here’s what I want you to stress,” said Paul to Titus, another young man like Timothy, both of whom it appears were Paul’s understudies/mentees. “Stress these things SO THAT you can get:

“The Lord bless you and keep you…”      Number 6:24-26

So God said to Moses, “Tell Aaron THIS is how to bless my people. Say to them….” When I see something so directly from God it gets my attention as something I might benefit from focusing on. First, it must be important to “bless” each other so I better figure out what it means to do that. Then, to follow, at least in principle, the very specific way God said to do it might be a good idea too. So here’s what I was reminded of this morning:
