Good Morning Union

“All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable…”           2 Timothy 3:16,17

Yesterday morning I wrestled with what direction to go with GMU now that I had finished the ABCs of promises. There were so many other great promises that I came up with as I selected one for each letter in the previous journey, so pardon the perpetuation but I think I’m going to stay with that list of other promises that I found!

Sister Ellen says, “Every commandis a promise; if they are

So, I made it!! 26 days, 26 letters in the alphabet, 26 promises fixed in my mind!! Here’s a review!

A - Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you. - Matthew 7:7

Z – “Zaccheus, you come down; for I’m going to your house today!”     Luke 19:5

Y – “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for You are with me; Your rod and staff comfort me.  You prepare a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:  and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”  Psalm 23:4-6

X – “Exceeding great and precious promises are given to us.”       2 Peter 1:4

Ok, give me a break! I know “exceeding” does not start with an “X” so as to fit nicely into my ABCs of Promises; find me a word that does begin with that letter in the Bible and while you’re at it make sure it’s a promise!! At least this SOUNDS like it starts with an X, and it DOES qualify at a great promise!! J

W – “Whoever believes in the Son of God HAS eternal life.” John 3:36

V – Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believes in me has everlasting life. --- John 6:47

I actually found 3 “V” – verily- texts this morning, all in the book of John! In addition to Pastor Belcher’s text I add:

“Verily, verily, I, Except a man be born again, he cannot enter see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3

Verily, verily, I say to you, whatever you shall ask the Father in my name, He will give it to you. John 16:23

Three “verily” good promises!!

U – “Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul. O my God I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.” Psalm 25:1-2

Don’t know if you can remember that far back, but this used to be a “praise song” when I first became a chaplain. I could even play it on my guitar because I only needed three cords, NOT like the ones you guys play now!! J Of course you can’t remember back that far—you weren’t even born then!!

T – “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Hope you had a great break and are ready to continue your quest for learning!!

The “T” promise for today is a very familiar text from the wisdom of Solomon. The thing that caught my attention this morning was the superlatives in the sentence. IF I want God to direct my path then I need to do two things:

“Trust in the Lord—with ALL my heart”

Well, the trip to Bolivia to visit Candace had to be postponed due to problems with the airline we were working with in South America. Disappointing to my granddaughter who was going with me but I assured her it is not cancelled, it’s just postponed! Oh well, “Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again, Rejoice!” No wait, that was yesterday’s text!  Here’s today’s!

S – “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
