"Sex and the Soul" author to speak at Union College
Donna Freitas, author of Sex and the Soul, will speak at Union College on Tuesday, November 8, at 10:30 a.m.
Many people avoid talking about sex on a Christian college campus, but even Christian campuses are not immune to the “hook up” culture prevalent on colleges across the country. Donna Freitas, author of Sex and the Soul, will discuss her research on the topic for chapel service at Union College on Tuesday, November 8, at 10:30 a.m.
A devout Christian, Freitas wanted to better understand how today's college students reconcile their spiritual and sexual lives. Her book, published by Oxford University Press, explores the impact of the hook up culture and is the result of surveying more than 2,500 students at seven different institutions about sexual experiences and religious and spiritual commitments. She also conducted nearly 100 face-to-face interviews.
Freitas, an assistant professor of religion at Boston University, has also authored two novels, The Possibilities of Sainthood and This Gorgeous Game.
The chapel talk will take place in the sanctuary of the College View Seventh-day Adventist Church located at 48th and Prescott on the campus of Union College.
Students and employees can also join Freitas for a Lunch and Learn session from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the President's Dining Room in Union Market.
