Three New Databases Available This Fall

Three new databases have recently been added to the library's digital collections: SocINDEX with Full TextNursing Education in Video, and Mango Languages.

Picture of a the SocINDEX with Full Text button.SocINDEX with Full Text is a comprehensive scholarly database for research in sociology containing abstracts and indexing for nearly 5000 journals dating as far back as 1895. Complete with extensive indexing for books/monographs, conference papers, and other non-periodical content sources the database also includes searchable cited references. Fulltext coverage is extensive although not complete. Its extensive scope and content provide users with a wealth of extremely useful information encompassing the broad spectrum of sociological study. The database features millions of records with subject headings from a sociological thesaurus designed by subject experts and expert lexicographers. SocINDEX with Full Text will be particularly useful for topics in emergency management and social work and an important complement for communication, education, psychology, nursing, and physician assistant studies.

Picture of the Nursing Education in Video button.Nursing Education in Video is an online collection of 317 Medcom-Trainex streaming videos created specifically for training nurses. These videos have earned more than 50 major awards for excellence, including the prestigious Emmy award. New videos are added annually and the content is continuously reviewed for accuracy, currency, and compliance with U.S. Federal Regulations and agencies such as OSHA and CMS. Instructors may add links to videos in their Moodle courses at the title or segment level. They may also generate customized segments for class use as well.

Try Mango!"Mango Languages replaces Tell Me More as Union College's premier language learning tool. Mango Languages includes more than 40 languages including Biblical Hebrew, Koine Greek, Spanish, and Arabic. Each lesson combines real life situations and audio from native speakers with simple, clear instructions. The courses are presented with an appreciation for cultural nuance and real-world application that integrates components of vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and culture. Users learn actual conversation, breaking down complex linguistic elements within an audio-visual framework that draws important connections and builds on information they have already learned.
