Social work in South America

Susy Gomez’s heart broke as she listened to the new college student share his story. The young Peruvian engineering student had excellent grades and a full scholarship, but between him and his mother, a disabled woman who tried to feed the family by selling barbecue, they could not raise the $100 for additional school expenses like supplies.

3rd Annual Dash for Compassion

This year's "Dash for Compassion" event is a 5k run that will benefit the Matt Talbot Kitchen. The event is planned and hosted by the Union College PA Students .

The race will take place at Pioneers Park on September 27, 2015 at 9:00 a.m with registration starting at 8:30 a.m.

New Exhibit: Sharing Light Around the World

On March 5 a new exhibit featuring the stories of thirty Union College alumni honored with golden cords opened in the library's gallery.

Writing students connect with orphans through stories

For students in Jill Morstad’s Basic Skills in English class, learning became much more real than learning how to order words on a page.  This spring, the 16 students undertook an unusual project to benefit orphans at the Pan American Health Service, Inc.’s orphanage in Peña Blanca, Honduras, while enhancing their own communication skills.

Students teach healthy living in Nicaragua

For pre-med students like senior Courtney Laubach, the Union College International Rescue and Relief (IRR) program’s semester in Nicaragua provides hands-on experience that gives them a unique advantage in medical school.  “I’m really excited to go to Nicaragua,” said Laubach. “It will be good to provide medical care and make a difference in someone’s health through education. You can treat the symptoms, but only education can really help in the long term.”

Biology professor retires to be a missionary

Retirement dreams of sitting on a beach watching sailboats and playing with grandchildren were pushed aside when Don and Janella Abbey felt the call to serve God in a new and different way.

After 14 years of service to Union College, the couple accepted the role of Asian Projects field directors for Adventist Frontier Missions (AFM). While stationed in Thailand, they will provide support to missionary couples in India, Philippines, and other South and Southeast Asian countries while and researching new projects in their region.

Student art at local gallery to raise funds for Maasai well

Union College student art will be on display in the Noyes Art Gallery, 119 S. 9th St., on Wednesday, November 30, to benefit Cassie Fitzpatrick's Not "Oh Well" project to build a well for the Maasai people of Africa.
