As the Director for Human Resources, it is my goal to support each member of the Union College family from the hiring process to final employment with emphasis on educating how to choose the benefits that will best satisfy each worker's specific needs. Questions concerning medical, insurance, and retirement benefits are my specialty. In addition, as the Risk Manager, I am also involved in assessing insurance needs and acquiring the needed insurance policies to protect the students, staff, and property of Union College. Campus safety is another area that I supervise and am active in the education of our staff in developing positive safety attitudes and promoting safe employment practices.
Collegeview Church, member of the Sound and Audio Visual Team
Started employment at Union College in July of 2004. The position for which I was hired was a new position. Previously, the duties were accomplished by others in the finance and accounting offices.
Previous to employment at Union College, I worked at Maplewood Academy from 1992-2004 as vice-principal, business manager, and instructor for business education and Spanish. Previous education experience included employment at three other academies in various positions as boy's dean, teacher, and business manager.
Our family specializes in travel around the US and the world. We most enjoy travel in Minnesota and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. I enjoy traditional American music and play the guitar and banjo. For fun, I enjoy cutting red and white oak trees from our Minnesota property and transforming the logs into lumber for woodworking projects. Free time equates into scampering to the Gere Library to feast on the incredible selection of books, tapes, videos, and CDs.
Maureen Shields, prettiest red-head in Lincoln, could win a most outstanding mom award in a world-wide competition, and has already been selected for the Minnesota Outstanding Gourmet Chef by her husband. She is currently employed as a support and care-giver for seniors at Home Instead. She has yet to ever lose a trivial pursuit competition.
Nathan (son): Graduated from Southern Adventist University in 2003 and is in his fifth year as Enrollment Advisor Extraordinaire at Union College. Currently pursuing graduate studies during the summer at Andrews University, Nathan is a world traveler for both business and personal enrichment. His wit, brilliance and adaptability in all cultures, along with his willingness to include the old man in his leisure activities make him my first choice for "hijo increible."
Esther (daughter), graduated from Union College with a double major in Communications, PR, and Institutional Development. She is using those talents at Union College in Student Finance department. In October of 2008, wedding bells chimed and her husband, Tyson Shaw, became the luckiest man in the universe. She was also selected for the "Most Talented, Intelligent, Caring, and Beautiful Daughter Award" by the "father of the bride."
